Job Description
The Mountain Enterprise is a historic, locally-based newspaper that publishes a weekly physical and digital paper primarily covering news in the California communities of Frazier Park, Pine Mountain Club, Lebec, and Gorman. We are seeking a passionate, skilled, experienced, and flexible Administrative Coordinator to join our team and begin training ASAP.
The ideal candidate is an experienced administrator with an interest in journalism, strong writing and organizational abilities, and the ability pick up new skills quickly. Hours can range from 25-40+ hours per week depending on your skills and aspiration to contribute to the paper. The office is physically located in Frazier Park and workers must have their own reliable transportation (and be able to get to the office in winter weather also).
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary interface (via in-person interactions, phone, and email) between the community and the newspaper. This includes interacting with community members, advertisers, businesses, law enforcement, the school system, government and county agencies, etc.
- Ensure all constituents within and outside the newspaper meet necessary publication deadlines
- Open and close the office on a daily basis
- Manage advertising content management and payment tracking system on Smart Publisher software
- Invoice, collect payments, and accurately track outstanding payments from all advertisers
- Create and manage text content for classified and business listings, prepare these pages weekly for export into Adobe InDesign
- Maintain database of subscribers, ensure all subscription renewals go out in a timely manner
- Update digital newspaper weekly on Wordpress (no prior development experience required)
- Other various administrative, advertising, and creative duties as needed

Skills
- Minimum two years in a detail-oriented administrative capacity preferred
- Ability to think calmly and creatively
- Advanced organizational skills
- Ability to quickly learn nuanced office management systems and processes
- Flexibility is a must: each day involves a "set" task list and responding to new and changing events as they occur
- Strong writing and phone skills
- Strong computer skills (experience working with Mac computers is a plus)
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and adapt to changing priorities
- Ability to quickly learn and master various administrative software programs is a plus
- Adobe In-Design and Photoshop experience is a plus
- Experience in photography and copywriting is a plus
